Music Picks 2017

Hi everyone! hasn't this summer been totally amazing when it comes to a good sound track? I mean Sigrid happened, and Harry Style's first solo album. There have been plenty of new tunes to listen to! What is better to do than write a blog post telling you about all my favourite musicians. Listening to music is one of my favourite things to do whether it's while I'm working or just chilling out. Please do enjoy my summer playlist!

Sigrid
I literally cannot stop listening to this girl. I've literally learned every word to all her songs! Her EP is on repeat constantly so she needs to release new music NOW! Sigrid is a Norwegian artist - I mentioned I'm obsessed with music from Norway in my first blog post. Her music is unlike anything I've ever heard, somewhere in-between pop and alternative. I personally don't have a favourite song of hers - I love them all equally! Her music video for Don't Kill My Vibe is possibly the most aesthetic thing ever and I love the way she isn't afraid to express herself through dance while she is on stage. I can't get enough of this utter babe!

Don't Kill My Vibe
You shut me down, you like the control
You speak to me like I'm a child
Try to hold it down, I know the answer
I can't shake it off and you feel threatened by me

I tried to play it nice but
Oh-oh-oh, ooh, ooh
Don't kill my vibe
Oh-oh-oh, ooh, ooh
Don't break my stride

You think you're so important to me, don't you?
But I wanted you to know that you don't belong here
You think you're so important to me, don't you?
Don't kill my vibe.........

LANY
I started listening to the Californian trio's R&B-inspired pop tracks a while back and they really do make for the perfect summer music. Their songs ILSB, yeah, babe, no way and WHERE THE HELL ARE MY FRIENDS give me ultimate summer vibes. They express teenage emotions in electronica and wistful melodies and I find I can totally relate to a lot of their lyrics. I find their music so interesting as the vocals are always slightly echo-y which makes their music amazingly haunting. LANY released 4 EPs before releasing their debut album in July so there are plenty of tunes to listen to! Music like LANY's makes me think about summer days and long road trips in my beloved VW campervan.

WHERE THE HELL ARE MY FRIENDS
Where the hell are my friends
Home alone, not again
Friday, wine, and the internet
The only love I seem to get

And I don't, and I don't, and I don't know why
I don't have anyone on a weekend night
Where the hell are my friends
Where the hell are my friends

Am I starting to hate California
Why am I in LA
40 million in California
No one cares if I stay.......

Troye Sivan
The South African-Australian, Troye is my absolute favourite artist without a doubt. I started listening to him years ago, back when he was a small YouTuber and I still find that every song he comes out with, I love. I respect how open he is with his lyrics, singing about what it is like to be famous and being part of the LGBT community. I had the pleasure of being able to see him live at a small gig in Glasgow, and let me tell you, he has amazing stage presence. The atmosphere of the venue was incredible. I would love to see him live again at some point. His first and only album Blue Neighbourhood is filled with great songs, all of a different style. For example, the song Wild is upbeat and fun, while the song Talk Me Down is orchestral and haunting. Even though they are different the all just as groovy as each other. His new music like Papercut featuring Zedd & Gray continues to be great.

SUBURBIA
The sun sets longer
Where I am from
Where dreams go to die
While having fun
The boys fix their cars and
Girls eat it up
Loving's so good when
Love is young

Yeah, there's so much history in these streets
And mama's good eats
And Wonder on repeat
There's so much history in my head
The people I've left
The ones that I've kept

Have you heard me on the radio?
Did you turn it up?
On your blown-out stereo
In suburbia
Could be playing hide and seek from home
Can't replace my blood
Yeah, it seems I'm never letting go
Of suburbia...........

Astrid S
Astrid S is another Norwegian artist whom I was introduced when she was Troye Sivan's opening act for his European Blue Neighbourhood tour. This girl is brilliant live as well and as soon as the gig had finished, I was on Spotify looking her up. My favourite songs of hers are Jump and Hurts So Good. Jump is a great disco jam that also has amazing heartfelt lyrics about suicide and whether anyone would care if she killed herself. Her most recent release, Such A Boy from her EP Party's Over, is a fab tune as well. I particularly love the way the music video portrays Astrid as the male in her 'relationship' with Herman Tommeraas from the Norwegian show SKAM (don't judge me, I said I love Norway!). Astrid S's career started on the Voice Norway and hope she continues to gain more fans.

Jump
If I fell with no one around
Would it even make a sound?
Cause I can't even make one now
And I get these thoughts in my head
But I wouldn't do it anyway
Or at least that's what I say

Til I'm right on the edge
I take a look at the bottom
And I know it will hurt hitting ground
But I don't think that I'd mind the falling
Would anyone know? Is there anyone watching?
I'm getting crazy ideas in my head
And I don't think I'm able to stop them
Jump

When the water rushes in
I feel it filling up my lungs
I'm in the calm before the storm
When I dive, feel the wind in my hair
Nobody can talk me down
I'm really gonna do it now...........

Harry Styles
Now, I'm not proud of this, but I used to be a massive One Direction fan. I saw them live a few years ago but unfortunately Harry was unwell and unable to sing. Thankfully I have moved on from those days and so, it seems, has Harry. In his amazing, self named debut solo album he went for an emotional Seventies soft-rock vibe.  Songs like Sign Of The Times and Meet Me In The Hallway are slow and intimate where as songs like Kiwi and Only Angel have more of a hard rock influence. I love how Harry addresses important issues in his lyrics. And by the way, have you seen Dunkirk because wow, Harry's acting is so much better than I was expecting. His music is the best thing to groove to this summer.

Sign Of The Times
Just stop your crying
It's a sign of the times
Welcome to the final show
Hope you're wearing your best clothes

You can't bribe the door on your way to the sky
You look pretty good down here
But you ain't really good

We never learn, we've been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets, the bullets?
We never learn, we've been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
Your bullets, the bullets?...........

Lorde
The New Zealand 20-year-old released her second album, Melodrama this summer and has cranked up the intensity. We have all heard of her debut hit Royals but her new album is next level - it's somewhere between Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey. Melodrama is Lorde's depiction of a young woman finding herself during tough times - and a breakup is only part of the story. My favourite tracks are Green Light and The Louvre but I adore the whole album and it is playing all the time in my house!

Green Light
I do my make-up in somebody else's car
We order different drinks at the same bars
I know about what you did and I wanna scream the truth
She thinks you love the beach, you're such a damn liar

Those great whites, they have big teeth
Hope they bite you
Thought you said that you would always be in love
But you're not in love, no more
Did it frighten you
How we kissed when we danced on the light up floor?
On the light up floor

But I hear sounds in my mind
Brand new sounds in my mind
But, honey, I'll be seein' you 'ever I go
But, honey, I'll be seein' you down every road
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it

'Cause, honey, I'll come get my things, but I can't let go
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it
Oh, I wish I could get my things and just let go
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it............

Lana Del Rey
I am totally in love with Lana' Del Rey's brand new album. I am always instantly entranced by her haunting tone. Lust For Life is filled to the brim with cosy, 50s rock anthems, they just make me feel so happy. One of my favourite songs from this album is Cherry, which is all about how she keeps falling for the bad boys. I love Lana for her uniqueness and how she isn't afraid to express herself the way she wants.

Cherry
Love
I said real love, it's like feeling no fear
When you're standing in the face of danger
'Cause you just want it so much
A touch
From your real love
It's like heaven taking the place of something evil
And lettin' it burn off from the rush
Yeah, yeah
(Fuck)

Darlin', darlin', darlin'
I fall to pieces when I'm with you, I fall to pieces
My cherries and wine, rosemary and thyme
And all of my peaches (are ruined)

Love, is it real love?
It's like smiling when the firing squad's against you
And you just stay lined up
Yeah
(Fuck)............

London Grammar
I only recently came across London Grammar when I heard one of their songs, Strong in the Norwegian drama SKAM. As soon as I heard it, I was looking up the lyrics frantically trying to find who the song was by. The British trio's music is haunting and hymnal, it falls and rises to euphoric bliss. I can't help but close my eyes and get lost in Hannah Reid's  gorgeous vocals.

Strong
Excuse me for a while
While I'm wide-eyed
And I'm so down caught in the middle
I've excused you for a while
While I'm wide-eyed
And I'm so down caught in the middle

And a lion, a lion, roars would you not listen?
If a child, a child cries would you not forgive them?

Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong
I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong

So there you have it. My favourite artists this summer. I really do hope you will enjoy some of these amazing people's music and update your playlist.

Thanks for popping over and do come and say hey on my  Twitter and Instagram.
