TREND: Dot to Dot

Hello my lovelies! In a previous blog post I talked about this season's top trends and how there are endless possibilities when it comes to styling this year. And it is safe to say that polka dots are probably the biggest trend of all this year, So, instead of just skating over the trends, this time I am going to go into more detail and show you how polka dots can be styled for casual looks and that they don't just belong on the catwalks.

If you associate polka dots with Minnie Mouse or the party dresses you wore as a little girl, it's time to rethink the surprisingly versatile and elegant print. Cropping up repeatedly on the SS18 catwalks, including Balenciaga, Self-Portrait, Mary Katrantzou, Giorgio Armani and Dior, we were offered multiple ways to wear polka dots and street style stars have been giving us a masterclass in putting together perfect polka dot ensembles, proving the print isn't just for the catwalk but can be incorporated into a casual look too.
If dots feel a) too feminine b) too summery or c) too juvenile for your style, pairing the print with a chunky knit will add a tougher, tomboy and more weather-appropriate edge. Wear with a vibrant knit and heels for a bold evening option or a classic shirt or tee for daytime chic.

Over the past few years, denim has become a key focus of the fashion wardrobe, whether it's deconstructed jeans or frayed ruffles. Polka dots and denim make an unlikely perfect pairing so layer a print over your favourite pair of jeans, tuck a dotty blouse into a high-waisted denim skirt or throw a jean jacket over a polka print dress for a cooler, more casual vibe.

The polka dot print adds a playful twist to the classic LBD. A polka dot dress is perfect for a fancy event, worn alone with your favourite heels, or over jeans with trainers for an elegant weekend look.

If a white shirt feels too formal, a polka dot blouse is a fun alternative for instant elegance and adds personality into any outfit just like I styled it today.

As we eagerly await the approach of autumn, a flowing polka dot maxi dress is the perfect transitional piece to bridge the gap between your winter and warmer weather wardrobe. Add colourful accessories, such as a vibrant clutch bag or bright boots, for a flash of fun.

If you've made a New Year's resolution to add more colour to your wardrobe, why not try polka dots with a pop of colour. They don’t always have to be monochrome. Get out of your comfort zone and pull off a Pudsey The Bear look.

So, that's all for today folks! I hope this inspired you to inject a few polka dots into your wardrobe. And please let me know in the comments what your favourite trend of this season is. Thanks for popping over and do come and say hey on my Twitter and Instagram.
