Vintage Vibes

The 1970s are one of the most revisited decades when it comes to fashion, and they continue to influence modern style. Thanks to the era’s whimsical uniqueness and freedom of expression, the ’70s and their style are something to which both designers and fashion-lovers are continuously drawn. From hippy and glam rock to disco and bohemian, the decade encapsulates numerous iconic styles that are still wearable today. All you need to know is how to rework those time-tested trends to fit perfectly into your wardrobe.
Fashion in the ’70s covered many genres and styles. Thanks to a penchant for creativity and expression, the decade saw the birth of many trends that continue to influence fashion today. As well as the instantly recognisable disco and hippy styles of the era, there were also boho-chic, punk and glam rock, folk and ethnic, safari and military, and sporty-chic fashions. Included amongst these trends were also the key items and details for which the decade is now known, such as earthy tones, suede, bell-bottom pants, fringing, and high-waisted designs:

While footwear trends come and go, the popularity of knee-high boots has stood the test of time. Of course, it’s easy to understand why. These classic boots certainly have a lot to offer women. As well as providing warmth in the colder months, these shoes are also seriously chic and surprisingly versatile; they’re mainly associated with winter, don’t be so quick to put them on the top shelf when the weather warms up. For the colder months, wear your brown knee high boots with jeans for a casual look. Dress them up with a winter coat in a matching neutral tone. As it heats up, opt for a floral dress or denim mini skirt to rock the look all year round. Perfect for work, the weekend, nights out and beyond, knee-high boots can look fantastic with a variety of outfits.

Flare jeans are a woman's denim style that can work for every body type. If you're curvy, this jean's signature bell-shape hems offer balance for wider hips, while making your legs look longer. Meanwhile, those of us with boyish shapes can wear flare jeans to create the illusion of curves. We’re also fond of the way that 70s-inspired flare jeans add instant style to outfits, whether you're wearing them for casual weekends, layering them to play up their bohemian-chic vibe for concerts and parties, styling them with polished pieces for the office, or dressing up your flare jeans for a date night out.

Brown gets a pretty bad reputation when it comes to clothing. It’s drab, ugly and the reserve of librarians and girl scouts. But, despite being shunned by the masses for some years, this season the fashion world has declared it a must-have hue. This is partly due to fashions enduring love affair with all things Seventies, of course. An era when things never looked so brown, this isn’t the first time the decade has made a comeback, but up until now, its return has been signalled by more wearable trends like fringing, checked blazers and corduroy. For 2018 however, the retro mood is taking itself through sepia-tinged glasses with shades of camel, toasty burnished brown and haute hazels.

Nothing’s cooler than a vintage tee. Whether emblazoned with retro cartoon characters (Mickey Mouse), nostalgic brands (Camp Beverly Bills, anyone?), or images of bands that your parents listened to, the right one can totally transform an outfit. When it comes to getting your hands on the right style, there are a couple of options: Rifling through dad’s drawers to find his old Lynyrd Skynyrd tee, trolling sites like eBay and Etsy, or scouring vintage shops in your area. Once you’ve found the right one, play around with how you style it. Sure, you can throw on a cool pair of ripped jeans and leather jacket, but you can also chic it up a little and wear it under a tailored black suit, tucked into high-waist shorts this summer, or even with a fancy maxi skirt. To illustrate that point, we’ve gathered outfits from some of our favourite bloggers who prove that vintage tees aren’t only cool, but seriously versatile.

Having its one-piece design, a denim jumpsuit may be the most effortless and comfortable outfit to wear. However, it may not be the most versatile piece you can have, so keep on reading for our styling tricks on wearing your denim jumpsuit for various occasions. Keep it sleek and simple, spice it up with a hat, belt or stylish bag, or create a fabric contrast with layering.

So, that's all for today folks! I hope this inspired you to inject a few 70s vibes into your wardrobe. And please let me know in the comments what your favourite trend of this season is. Thanks for popping over and do come and say hey on my Twitter and Instagram.
