Fashion Personal Statement Example

Hello Lovelies! I have had a very busy month or so, but I am back! What with prelims, my portfolio and university interviews I have not had time for my little blog. But all this work was worth it! I have received 5 offers from universities and could not be happier. I know the whole university application process can be very difficult, I was very unsure what to write about when I started my fashion personal statement so I thought I would share my completed one. This gave me 3 offers and two interviews (I will share my portfolio and interview tips in a later blog post) so I thought it would be very helpful.

"Fashion speaks to me in a way nothing else does. It is the ultimate expression of my individuality; a way of representing and empowering my inner self, without opening my mouth. I believe fashion is more than just frivolous and indulgent; it's an art form that has the power to create social change and challenge existing ideas of beauty and sexuality.
Kickstart Summer School enabled me to explore many courses at different Edinburgh universities and demonstrated that I am confident and independent. This reinforced my belief that university is where I want to be, and fashion is what I want to do. Studying a wide breadth of fashion, such as design, styling and photography, as well as marketing and management will help me to gain knowledge of the inner workings of the industry - something that's always fascinated me.
Last year, I excelled in Higher Art & Design and was awarded the certificate for being top of my class at my school's end of year ceremony. The course helped me to develop some of the skills - including sewing and illustration - needed to work in the fashion industry, and my research gave insight into manufacturing and product development. Likewise, I performed well in Higher Photography, where I styled models in order to get the best colour and contrast in my pictures.
Currently, I have the role of Creative Director in my Young Enterprise group - a group where we design and produce a product that is sold for profit. I am trained in the manufacture and promotion of products, can complete projects under a time limit and always finish what I've started, even if there are bumps along the way. For several years, I've been involved in our school magazine, primarily designing and writing the fashion spread. I believe that experience in this kind of journalism will be beneficial when working on fashion communication and my understanding of trends.
After two years of training, I am finally an Advanced Peace Advocate, working towards making my school a more understanding environment by teaching the younger years how to cope with classroom disputes. I am determined to make the world a more peaceful place, and I'm certain that fashion is becoming a more diverse and inclusive environment. Collaborative conversation and listening are strong skills that I have learned from being a Peace Advocate and as well as building confidence in the school children; it's helped me to grow my own confidence in many areas, especially presenting ideas to an audience.

In my spare time, I enjoy social media, as it allows me to explore more global fashion. So much so, two years ago I decided to start my own blog dedicated to fashion and styling, which I continue to this day. My recent posts have been inspired by the 1970s, and the non-western cultures that the era was influenced by. Creating this blog has also helped me understand consumer behaviour, the birth of trends, and the importance of diversity and sustainability. I have also played a part in the design and creation of a website for my family business, in addition to being involved in most of the promotion online. This is useful as it has allowed me to experiment and adapt ideas when new trends or technology arise, as well as the fact that fashion has become an increasingly digitalized industry.
At present, it's not clear for me which area of fashion I want to focus on, but I look forward to studying the subject in-depth, and to being pushed to become a more empathetic, innovative version of myself. I would be suitable for this course because I'm open minded, dedicated, creative, and able to cope with the demands of university life. I feel this course would be the ideal place for me to grow, whilst gaining the essential skills needed to succeed and make an impact in an industry I am passionate about."

Please remember to only use this personal statement as an outline or a reference and never copy as it may not be accepted by UCAS. I hope this was helpful and good luck on your journey to uni. So, that's all for today folks! Thanks for popping over and do come and say hey on my Twitter and Instagram.
